The championship season kicks off in March in Australia with a thrilling race around the Albert Park Grand Prix Circuit in Melbourne and finishes in the 3.4 mile Abu Dhabi Grand Prix circuit. With twenty-one races taking place within a span of nine to ten months does make it a busy time of the year for all the ten teams made up of two drivers each. In-order for all involved from drivers to engineers, they do get a three-week summer break at the halfway point of the season which usually comes up between July and September allowing everyone some free time to spend with their family.
🏎 F1 | When do Bets Open?
Although, as previously mentioned, the season actually starts in March, in February the winter testing is on. During this month the teams and drivers get to try out their brand new cars for the upcoming season. Beside the testing it’s also an exciting part of the year for all enthusiasts as it’s that the time of year where all the teams start to reveal their new car liveries. This is also when bookmakers starts getting an idea on who are the most prominent drivers and if there could be any newcomers from the previous season.
🏎 F1 | The most popular Circuits
The first race of the season in Australia tends to get a lot of attention, although it’s an early start to the day for European enthusiasts, it’s the race which most await after a winter without racing to watch.
It’s not easy to follow all twenty-one races, below we’ll try and highlight a few rounds which for the past few years have offered a spectacular form of racing. Monaco’s tight and twisty street circuit always offers something which keeps you glued to your screens, although the narrow streets limit the drivers on how much overtaking can been done throughout the race, it always offers an actioned packed seventy eight lap race.
Another four races to form a recommended top five races not to be missed races would be, Azerbaijan, Great Britain’s Northamptonshire Silverstone circuit home of the British Grand Prix, Ferrari’s home Monza circuit in Italy and as Abu Dhabi comes at the end of the season it’s when tensions are high which tends to offer a great closing to a year’s racing.
🏎 F1 | Race Weekends
A Formula One weekend is made up of 3 action packed days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Friday is made up of 2 test sessions which gives an opportunity for the teams and drivers to gather some data for the rest of the weekend. Moving on to the following day, Saturday consists of another practice session followed by the official qualifying session during which all drivers qualify for Sundays race starting grid. Sunday is race day, the race lengths vary from one circuit to another but none of the races can exceed the two hours limit.
🏎 Betting Types in F1
There are various bets that you can place on a F1 race. We can categorise these into 4 main ones:
1️⃣ Live Betting on F1
This obviously refers to betting during the race. This increase to the thrill of the race especially if you are a fan of any of the cars or drivers. Betting on a live F1 race is different than betting on football, you need to be wise, and anticipate drivers decisions like pit-stops and changing of tyres.
2️⃣ Outright Betting on F1
This is perhaps the most straightforward bet that you can bet on in Formula1. In an outright bet you can bet on a particular driver that he will win that particular GrandPrix. You can also bet that this particular driver will finish in podium (among the first 3), however here the reward would be less when compared with an outright bet on a winner.
3️⃣ Long-term F1 Betting
A long-term bet refers to the bets that you can bet on the driver or the team winning the championship of a particular year. The bookmakers change the odds as the season starts to evolve, meaning that you have a chance of winning big at the start of the season if you hit the right winning team or driver from as early as the start of the season.
4️⃣ Qualifying Betting
As we explained earlier, an F1 race is split on a weekend, the actual race happens on a Sunday but the qualifying day is usually Saturday. Bookmakers also provide bets on who will be qualifying and there in what pole position the drivers will be starting on race day.
As any other type of betting, F1 betting is fun and give players thrill and a chance to win some
real money
. However it is always important to emphasise on the fact that F1 betting can also be addictive, and if you start feeling that it is no longer fun to play and it is addictive, you should seek help. For more information you can read our responsible gambling page.
